Dental Corporate Social Responsibility

Because we don't just care about your teeth...

Welcome to our Newbury Smile Makers Corporate Social Responsibility (#NSMCSR) page in which we show you how we reach out to help others beyond the doors of our Dental Practice.

The essence of a great dental practice is health care and we believe this care should be a core value of any dental practice - and if this is the case that care should extend beyond the dentistry we offer.

Every business needs to do 2 primary things:

Do the thing right - in this case the 'thing' is our dentistry - so we are dedicated to doing this absolutely right every time

Do the right thing - this is where our Corporate Social Responsibility starts, where we ensure we do the right thing in our dentistry but also for the local and wider community of Newbury and Berkshire.

How we help the Newbury, Bershire and wider Community

We have summed up our NSMCSR in 4 key areas:
  1. Donations
  2. Activities
  3. Actions
  4. Projects
Donations:

Every 6 months we pick a charity to donate to. Often this is chosen by one of our patients with a particular cause or passion
- most recently our chosen charity was "Make a Wish Foundation UK" which aims to grant magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses

Activities

This year we will be running in the Race For Life (Breast Cancer Support) in July 2011 and taking part in various activites for Mouth Cancer Awareness Week in September 2011

Actions:

It's often easy for a company to decide to donate some money and say they 'do the right thing', so we've taken things a bit further and have documented recycling of all:
  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Plastic
  • Cans
We are constantly on the look out for more ways to help the local and wider environment

Projects:

We have sent a previously used autoclave to Cambodia via Dentaid, a charity providing dental care in the 3rd world. Even a second-hand one would be worth many hundred's of pounds but more importantly will help save lives and the spread of diseases by improved cross-infection control. More details on our Giving Projects page.
