Richard Charon BDS Dental Practitioner (V.U.Manc.1975)

Intravenous or IV Sedation.

If you are very anxious you, IV sedation might be the way forward for you.

Who will sedate me?

We are a very experienced team with a 100% safety record and can offer this form of "twighlight sleep" sedation, in-house.

After many years of carrying out dental care for people sedated by a doctor, I undertook the required traininig with SAAD and began to offer IV sedation service myself about 8 years ago.

We have helped a  large number of  people this way and woild be happy to put you in touch with individuals who have used our services this way, if you would like further reassurance.

Who will look after me?

My wife, Chris Charon is a qualified Dental Sedation Assistant and will take excellent care of you from your first contact with us, through the entire procedure and to the last step as you leave the practice and step into your escort's car to be driven home.

Our other derntal nurses will take care of assisting me on the dental treament side of things.

How is is Done?

IV sedaton will involve an injection of a very safe drug called Midazolam which is a sedative.  Used in an amount carefully adjusted to your needs you will not be unconscious but you will be sedated.

We can provide a numbing cream to use before you come so you will not feel the "jab".  If this is still too scary, we may be able to begin with some "Happy Air" sedative to help you become relaxed and distant and so you won't mind about havig the sedative injection.

The great benefit of this method is that you will be unaware of having your smile fixed or upgraded and have little or usually no memory of it afterwards !

Are there any downsides?

Yes there are:

You must have a reliable escort to drive you home and stay with you until fully recovered, usually this is overnight.

You cannot return to work, drive, operate any machinery ( including domestic ones) or be responsible for others until the next day

You must be reasonably fit and well . We will advise you if there are any medical reasons why this might be unsuitable for you. Please ask us.

Af the end of the treatment, you may well be just as anxious for future appointments because you have not been able to find out that modern dentistry is pain free and not as horrid as you have come to believe.

How can I get more reassurance ?

It may help you to know that I belong to SAAD and have undertaken several traininig courses with them over many years.

I am also a member of the Dental Sedation Teachers Group,(DSTG) a UK and Ireland Group of all dental schools, Hospital and practitioners providing sedation services for dentistry.

I am also a mentor for both SAAD and DSTG, advising and assisting other dentists in the use of the Inhalation sedation or RA method.

Finally, I will soon be adding some of my IV sedation patient's testimonials to this website so please drop by again to see these.
